FKBooksandTips Ad result -

Cost of ad: $25
Req: $0.99 pricing / 4* average

Titles to recoup cost = 71.4

DoD Sales prior to promo and post promo (cumulative):

  • Monday 1st : 0 ---> 9 (+9)
  • Tuesday 2nd: 9 ---> 18 (+9)
  • Wednesday 3rd: 18 --- > 66 (+38) [Promo day]
  • Thursday 4th: 66 ---> 99 (+33)
  • Friday 5th: 99 ---> 111 (+12)

So, our sales bump lasted 2 days. It now seems to be settling back to where it was pre promo.
If we'd sold at 9/day (which is a conservative average from our last week pre-promo) then we should have sold 45 copies in those 5 days. Instead, we sold 111.

That's 66 extra sales, earning $23.10.

Net so far: -$1.90, but we may continue to sell above average over the next couple of days. It's also helped keep momentum going during a traditionally very slack period. We did re-enter the top 100 US police procedurals which is a nice bonus.

In short, no immediate return, a negligble loss and potential for long term gain. US sales were the only market affected. UK etc remained entirely static.

Verdict: Worth a gamble - would have done much better if it wasn't right before July 4th holidays.

NB - They also do a $50 advert for books at $2.99. If we'd gained 66 sales at that rate, we would have made $132, or an $82 profit.
